Start by choosing your fabric and cutting 10 1/2″ strips. We are using two-colors for the sample below.

Position your fabric on top of the die. Make sure that the selvedge is aligned with the die label and the cutter handle to ensure that the lengthwise grain is traveling perpendicular to the roller.

SONY DSC

Your fabric should also be placed on the die at the same angle as the die shapes. You can see in the picture below, the fabric is at a slight angle.

SONY DSC

Place the cutting mat on top of the die and roll through the cutter. Roll extra fabric up along the side of the die.

Keep going…

Slide the cutting mat off the die to reveal all the shapes you need for the GO! Hunter Star block.

You can continue to cut shapes from the strips of fabric so you’ll have enough pieces for several blocks.

SONY DSC

As you continue to work your way thorough the fabric, you’ll have small scraps. You can either keep them to one side of the die, or trim them off as you go.

SONY DSC Keep your cut pieces organized!

Before you start to sew, lay out the pieces to create part of the block. The GO! Hunter Star block is assembled in four units, and when the four units are combined, the create the full block. The picture below shows one unit.

The center rows are constructed with three pieces – two small and one larger. When you set up the center rows to sew, the unit looks like the picture below when the right sides of the fabric are together. The pieces have notched corners so¬†everything lines up perfectly, and you don’t have to trim dog ears later!

Sew the center units together, press your seams.

Pin the center unit to the large triangle.

Sew with a 1/4″ seam.

SONY DSC

Press the seam.

SONY DSC

Repeat the same process for the other side.

  1. I’m just finishing a Hunter’s Star. Would have been nice to have my size fit your dies and have less work to do. Beautiful finished products.
