AccuQuilt Hosts Over 300 at 2nd Annual Barn Quilt Unveiling Event

(FREMONT, Neb., June 14, 2011) – AccuQuilt, the leader in fabric cutting solutions for quilting and fabric crafts, hosted more than 300 fans and quilt enthusiasts at the 2nd Annual Barn Quilt Unveiling held on June 10. The unveiling celebration was the conclusion of the 2011 AccuQuilt Barn Quilt Design Contest, which inspired quilters to submit over 600 stunning quilt block designs for a chance to win a $1,000 AccuQuilt shopping spree and the opportunity to have their design displayed on the AccuQuilt office.

First place winner, Candace Door of Sidney, Neb. joined Steve Nabity, AccuQuilt CEO, and Linda Pumphrey, AccuQuilt National Sales Manager, on stage during the unveiling of her 17’ x 17’ block titled, “Sweet Rose.” “I’m really honored to be here and humbled my design was chosen when there were so many awesome designs in the contest,” said Door. “I chose bright colors and made it part appliqué and part patchwork because I think that represents AccuQuilt; they have dies that cut both those types of shapes.”

Second place winner, Deonn Stott of Heber Valley, Utah was also present at the unveiling to see her 6’x 6’ block displayed on the AccuQuilt office. “I had never seen a barn quilt, but from what I understand they are clear, pure, colorful and sometimes symbolic designs. So for my block I wanted simple lines, something that could be easily made or translated into a large quilt,” said Stott. She named her block, “A Soldier’s Star” in honor of her son currently serving in Afghanistan. For those who were unable to attend the unveiling celebration, the winning designs can be found at accuquilt.com/barnquilt.

“AccuQuilt is changing the way quilters cut fabric and our barn block celebration is our way of supporting the quilting community in the biggest way possible,” said Nabity. “Displaying the stunning quilt blocks on our building brings inspiration to all quilters. We welcome quilting enthusiasts from across the globe to stop by and see our barn quilt blocks and tour our facilities.” To schedule a tour of AccuQuilt, contact 888.258.7913.

Along with the unveiling, AccuQuilt sponsored a free stage show by national quilting icon, Eleanor Burns. Quilters showed up in mass at the chance to see Eleanor in person. Her entertaining personality engaged the audience with a fun presentation of “Quilt Blocks on American Barns” where she drew on help from the audience to portray various characters including a farmer and a comical flying pig. After Eleanor’s presentation and the barn quilt block unveiling, guests were able to take part in a barbecue lunch, a tour of the AccuQuilt facility, a book signing with Eleanor Burns and incredible door prize drawings including a handful of GO! Baby™ Fabric Cutters. Other prizes were generously donated by Handi Quilter®, The Electric Quilt Company®, Madeira Threads, Moda Fabric/United Notions, Olfa®, Oliso®, Omni Grid®, Pfaff®, Riley Blake Designs, Shades Textiles, Shannon Fabrics, Tacony Corporation, Therm O Web and Windham Fabrics.
