Quick Overview

First published in the 1920s under other names, this quilt design became popular in the 20s and 30s. As with other traditional designs, super-accurate cutting with AccuQuilt dies makes piecing a piece of cake. Twenty plates form a circle. Use 5 plates for quarter circle fans.

Overview

Die Specifications:

  • Use die with Studio Fabric Cutter (50800) only
  • Required: Jumbo Cutting Plastic (60002)
  • Cuts five 2 1/8"W x 5"H (5 cm x 13 cm) shapes (finished block requires 20 plates)
  • Die includes seam allowance and notches for easy piecing
  • Coordinates with Circles-3 1/2" (50025)

Storage: Store Studio dies in AccuQuilt die storage cases or storage racks.

Die Tips:

  • With some fabrics, after cutting, a thread or two will remain where die blades meet. Snip threads with scissors.
  • Use cutting plastic that matches size of each die.
  • For best results, cut with die blades running under roller at an angle. Do not cut with blades parallel to roller.
  • Blades on some dies are positioned at an angle. Align fabric to edge of shape, not edge of die board.
  • Some dies feature specially designed corners to aid in alignment and pre-cutting.
  • For fast applique, apply fusible web to fabrics, then cut shapes with dies.
  • Use good quality fabric to reduce fabric stretch.
  • It's always a good idea to test cut one shape before cutting many shapes to ensure fabric orientation is correct.

Care & Maintenance: Use adhesive roller to clean lint and thread from dies. After each use, with the die pick provided with the cutter, remove any threads imbedded between blades and foam. It's normal for threads to get caught where blades meet in a die. Remove with tweezers or die pick. Die blades never need to be sharpened.

Warranty: AccuQuilt Studio dies are guaranteed for one year.

    Pretty Flowery Dresden

I really liked the cut of the pedal for the flower dresden. I plan to do a mix and match with the pointed one as well. Great die, cuts well, nice size finished.

Happy with the die - would like to have 1/4 inch added for finished rounded points

I received this die in a die bundle a few years back and did not use it until now. I do not review products prior to using them, so here goes with an honest opinion from an actual user: I Love This Die! It is so easy to use and I am amazed at the speed and accuracy of the cut. I wish my Grandmother was here to use it. She made the Dresden plate using a cardboard template; tracing each and then cutting with scissors around each individual blade. I think of her using her wringer washer when I turn the Studio handle! She, too, would love this die. Thank you for making such a great product.

    Basically satisfied HOWEVER

I've always wanted to make a Dresden Plate quilt and have purchased several patterns over the years. I was so happy to find out about especially happy to find that you have a die for the Dresden plate quilt! HOWEVER, I was not very happy to find that it was in the form of a wooden block. I was hoping that the pattern die would be like the other dies I had purchased (in the attractive green plastic frames). I haven't used it yet but I suppose it will work great. If not, I expect that Accuquilt will want to know and "make it right". I just think that Accuquilt should let the customers know that the die is not packaged in the nice green frames.

This die made cutting time fun

I have made the Dresden Plates before, but the die makes cutting time fun and a lot faster, plus no miss cuts. love it.

Please show us how to finish them

Please show us how to finish them. Are you backing them with interfacing or fabric and then sewing them on the background? Are you just turning over (ironing) the outer seams before sewing them on the background? or Are you just appliqueing them to the background with a satin stitch? The video does not work. The one on YouTube does not show how you finish them.

    Great Die

I love this die. Makes great, simple mats for my end tables.

    Love this design

I have not had time to do a dresden quilt but with this die I can absolutely complete the project I've always loved but not been confident to do!!

Great fun but more difficult than the pointed blades

So, the pointed blades are pretty easy to use as long as you are careful with your seam allowances. These curves, though, having them all cut is fabulous but I am having trouble getting consistent curves without a template for freezer paper.

    Love it!

I love the style of dresden plates but did not like the manual cutting. Accuquilt saved my sanity with this die and now I'm happily cutting away with ease!
