Created with AccuQuilt applique in mind, these 6” x 6” Hotfix Adhesive fusible sheets are perfect for creating your next project. Place the fabric wrong side up and place the sheet of Hotfix Adhesive paper backing side up. Look for “iron this side” printed on the paper. Fuse sheet of Hotfix Adhesive to the wrong side of selected fabric. Cotton setting no steam. Press down for 15 seconds on paper backing side. This will adhere it in place. Then iron both sides, fabric, and paper backing for 15 seconds. Allow to cool.
Once cooled completely it is ready to cut with the AccuQuilt die. Do not remove the paper backing until you are ready to fuse onto your foundation fabric.
Hotfix Adhesive will cut 4 layers of fused fabric with no problem. It does not require any stitching but if stitching is desired it will not gum up your needle.

Tips for Hotfix Adhesive first-time users:
Hotfix Adhesive is different from other fusibles. It is more like a glue; it has no webbing so it will not disappear if ironed too much. It has 2 melting points – 1) fuse onto the fabric (this step is very important to a successful project) and 2) final bond onto your project. Use the Cotton setting on your iron and no steam. To apply, have your fabric a little larger than the piece of Hotfix Adhesive. Iron the Hotfix Adhesive to the wrong side of your fabric, ensuring that the fabric is exposed on all sides of the adhesive so that you don’t get any adhesive on your ironing board or iron. Press down for 5-8 seconds on the paper backing side of the Hotfix Adhesive. This will adhere it in place. Then iron both sides, fabric, and paper backing for 10 seconds. Allow to cool completely before cutting. To test adherence, pull a small piece of the paper backing up. The Hotfix Adhesive should feel smooth and/or slick to the touch. It appears shiny on the back of the fabric but does not feel sticky/tacky. If it feels rough or looks opaque, it needs to be ironed again because it did not fuse to the fabric properly. If the first fuse onto the fabric is not done properly then it will not adhere to your foundation fabric and/or project. It will lift up very easily so make sure it is fused correctly prior to cutting out your pattern piece. Hotfix Adhesive is a permanent bond so make sure it is placed exactly where you want it before pressing it down.
When assembling the applique press down with the iron do not use back-and-forth motion until all pieces of the applique have adhered down. If the pieces have not adhered, they could shift and be out of place, or worse the movement could roll the piece over and stick to the iron.
