Give Me 10 Minutes -- And I'll Show you an Unbelievable Fat Quarter Quilt

Make a Modern LeMoyne Star Fat Quarter Quilt with AccuQuilt GO! Dies

Hi, it's Bea from beaquilter again. I'm here to show you how to make this modern funky version of a LeMoyne quilt using your fat quarters.

LeMoyne Bea1 Fat Quarter

It measures 46" x 46"

I used the LeMoyne Accuquilt GO! Die and my collection of pretty blue fat quarters.

Fat Quarter

I used a Fat Quarter bundle of blues, (20 in my bundle) I might have had a few left over, but I started with 20!

Then  I used 1 1/2yd -2yds of white - including the binding.

I sorted them into light and dark fat quarters, so 10 of each.

Now the cutting is a bit tricky and you can't avoid waste and extra cuts, but I really don't care, I always use my scraps for something else.

There are 64 sections (quarters of LeMoyne stars)

Notice how there's a small triangle, then the diamond shape, then the large square.

and I made 8 different versions of the block.

Block A has 36

Blocks B-H have 4 each

Here's the written version of the cutting, but it could be easier to look at the pictures and charts below, too.

Block A (36) cut out 1Light 1 Dark SMALL triangle, 1 light, 1 dark diamond, 2 white large triangles

Block B (4) cut out 2 white SMALL triangles, 1 light, 1 dark diamond, 1 white 1 dark large triangles

Block C (4) cut out 1 Light 1 white SMALL triangle, 1 white, 1 dark diamond, 1 white, 1 light large triangles

Block D (4) cut out 1 whitet 1 Dark SMALL triangle, 1 light, 1 white diamond, 1white 1 dark large triangles

Block E (4) cut out 1white 1 Dark SMALL triangle, 1 light, 1 dark diamond, 1 white, 1 light large triangles

Block F (4) cut out 1Light 1 white SMALL triangle, 1 light, 1 dark diamond, 1 white, 1 dark large triangles

Block G (4) cut out 2 white SMALL triangle, 1 light, 1 dark diamond, 2 white large triangles

Block H (4) cut out 2 white SMALL triangle, 1 light, 1 dark diamond, 1 light, 1 white large triangles

CONFUSED yet??

take a look below

(the small triangles are at the top right)

Follow the directions on the paper that comes with the die and sew the blocks together

Here's the letter's on the pieces to match the pictures above.

As you can see I took a lot of liberty in what I considered light and dark blue, to me the light blue was more of a teal/ turquoise and dark was more regular blue, so sometimes there were some teal that was kind of dark next to the blue, but the result is a fun scrappy look!

Once the blocks are all sewn together, arrange like this below and sew quilt top center together in quadrants, turning as shown below.

This is what it should look like. If your design wall is big enough, you can put all 64 blocks up before sewing it together.

Sew blocks together and add a border, I cut my border strips 5 1/2".

Then quilt and bind.

I quilted mine in a dense meandering. I felt like it went well with the modern look of the quilt.

Even though the directions are a bit tricky, I bet you'll have fun trying this, and if it's all scrappy then it doesn't matter about extra pieces leftover! Remember, it's a great way to use up your fat quarters.

Have fun!
