How to Make a GO! Qube Coffee Table Topper

The GO! Qube™ makes this table topper so quick & easy!

Hi, it's Bea again from Beaquilter.com. I'm here to show you how to make this chomping table topper.

It measures 24"x 24"

 

 

When I was looking at this block once the triangles reminded me of teeth, so then I got the idea of making them chomp down on a cookie, the closest fabric I had was this coffee bean fabric, but what's better than coffee and cookies??

 

 

Here's what you need to make this table topper

 

Fabrics:

Dark Brown 1/2yd

Light brown (cookies) 1/4yd + I used it for binding too

White 1/4yd

 

QUBE sets:

8" QUBE set and 8" companion set

 

 

From these sets you'll be using #2, #3, #5 and #11 and #12 from the companion set

 

 

With shape #2, cut out (8) in the cookie fabric

With shape #3, cut out (8) in the brown fabric

With shape #5, cut out (16) in white

With shape #11 cut out (8) in brown

With shape #12 cut out (8) in the cookie fabric

 

For the borders:

Cut out (2) 1 1/2" x 16 1/2" and (2) 1 1/2" x 18 1/2" in white

Also (4) 3 1/2" x 18 1/2" in brown

and (4) 3 1/2" squares in the cookie fabric

If you want to cut (3) binding strips from the cookie fabric, you can do that too now :)

 

 

Making the blocks are not hard!

What I love about these Drunkard's path dies, is that it cuts out notches on both pieces, so it's easy to line up.

I do like to pin them a LOT still and I also add extra pins near the corner on the flat edges, because if those line up correctly too then the curved part will have an easier time lining up correctly too and not slide during sewing.

And notice that I have the outer wedge on top.

 

 

When I iron, I iron toward the inside wedge, it just seems the natural way it wants to go.

And making just 8 of these, gives you enough practice but also it's not so much that you get tired of them.

 

 

the other side of the block is easy! two triangles to the sides of the smaller square and then the larger brown triangle. Also 8 of these.

 

 

Then sewing the block together really makes it look like teeth eating a cookie- or in this case coffee beans!

 

 

Then sew the 4 blocks together and add the borders and it's done!

 

 

Here it's all quilted and bound. I quilted it using a brown variegated thread and mostly did feathers and squiggles.

 

 

This quilt can easily be done in an afternoon or a weekend, it's cute and small.
