Here we are on Christmas Eve, and I find myself wondering how many handmade gifts will be exchanged this holiday season? When you stop to think about it, the numbers must be staggering! Think about all the little ones who have made ornaments, cards and pictures. What about plates of festive cookies and goodies? How about useful items like bowl cozies, aprons and oven mitts? Don’t forget about table runners, place mats, stockings and, of course, quilts. Oh, and how many of you have sewn matching pajamas for your families?
Maybe you didn’t make them yourself, but you purchased them at a craft fair or you supported an online maker. Did you wrap that gift? Maybe add a special gift tag you made? Maybe it’s a pre-made item that you added to – like monograming a towel or adding applique to a sweatshirt. How many do you think?
Well, there’s really no way of knowing, but I know it’s a big number. Because makers not only love to create, but they love to share what they create with others! From king-size quilts to ornaments, handmade gifts both big and small will be exchanged this holiday season, and we at AccuQuilt, June Tailor and Arrow Furniture – plus our sister brands of Custom Shape Pros, Memory Stitch and AccuCut – like to think that we’ve been a part of making many of those special gifts.
Handmade gifts certainly aren’t exclusive to this season of the year. Quilters, crafters and makers of all kinds tend to be generous, thriving on sharing their gifts with others all year round. I think about all the quilters who support organizations like Quilts of Valor and Project Linus. It’s enough to make anyone’s heart grow a size or two bigger, isn’t it?
So, on this festive day, and on behalf of all our brands, I want to say thank you to all of you for making us a part of your process. No matter what holidays you are celebrating, we love knowing that we are connected to you and your creative process, hopefully making it easier for you to quilt, craft and create more.
