Quilts Made with RJR Cotton Supreme Solids

https://www.rjrfabrics.com/RJR Fabrics is exhibiting 13 beautiful quilts in the AccuQuilt Gallery. Four of these quilts were made using fabrics from the RJR Cotton Supreme Solids. These solids were first introduced to the quilting market in the late 1980's. They were designed by Bonnie Leman, the founder of Quilter's Newsletter Magazine. The Cotton Supreme solids are still produced today and are available in 216 different colors. These highest quality cotton fabrics are manufactured with a silky finish for added luster and an extremely soft hand. They are "supreme" for both hand and machine quilting.

MEET CAROLYN MURFITT

My name is Carolyn and I live in Melbourne, Australia. I made my first quilt in 2011. I found some old quilting magazines in a secondhand shop, bought some fabric online and completely improv'd my first quilt! This quilt is still my favourite quilt and it started me on my creative journey and my fabric addiction. In October 2014, I decided it was time to leave my job and when I drove home on my last day of work, for the first time I felt like a free bird. A couple of weeks into October, I traveled to the Adelaide Machine Quilting Convention. I trialed a couple of longarm quilting machines, and, with a lot encouragement from my husband and family, I decided this was my future. Flowering Wreath

I have always loved a flowering wreath, so when the opportunity presented itself to make another quilt for the RJR Fabrics, 'What Shade are You' Blog Hop, I decided this would be the perfect quilt design to showcase RJR solids. I designed the pattern and chose a rainbow wreath incorporating as many colours as I could to offer lots of visual interest. I custom quilted the quilt with a radiating design, trying not to take away from the impact of the wreath. Each flower was quilted with a similar pattern so the quilt would not only be balanced in design, but also in quilting.

Deconstructed Lonestar

I just finished making a Lonestar Quilt and decided I would make another for the RJR 'What Shade are You' Blog Hop. My idea was to incorporate as many colours as I could so the Lonestar would have the appearance of a fractured rainbow. I tried to create a quilting pattern that would not be obvious from a distance, so it didn't take away from the impact of the star, but as you got closer to the quilt you could see a secondary pattern in the negative space.

"Once upon a time I was a lawyer. After our first little boy was born I became a stay-at-home Mommy and started sewing because I needed a hobby. When I made my first quilt I found so much more! " Sarah is now a Mommy to three energetic boys and a quilt designer and maker.

Kilim

RJR Fabrics

"This quilt was created specifically for RJR's "What Shade Are You' Blog Hop. This design is inspired by a Kilim rug I spotted on Instagram. The center blocks are traditional quilt blocks, but the outer blocks extend the design instead of repeating it. All of the colors I chose are from RJR's Cotton Supreme Collection. I find it difficult to look at hundreds of colors and pick just the right shades all on my own. It was much easier after narrowing it down to the coordinating solids already chosen by the Cotton & Steel designers. I learned a couple of really important things designing and constructing this quilts. The first is about myself as a quilter. Kilim is quilted by Krishma Patel.

Lawn Diamonds

"This was my winning entry in Cotton & Steel's #lawnquilt competition. It is made entirely of cotton lawn, which is how the pattern got its name. It is a simple foundation paper piecing pattern, but the fun is in the color play. There are endless ways to vary the design. The custom quilting on the quilt is truly incredible and done by Krishma Patel."
