A Fall Table Runner

Hi, it's Bea from Beaquilter again. Are you ready for fall? Kids have started school and the weather is starting to get cooler (at least a little bit here in NC). Get a head start on projects for the fall!

This table runner took me about an afternoon to finish!

 

 

it was super easy to make, using the 8" QUBE set

 

 

and the 8" Companion set

 

 

First I had this sketched out in EQ7

 

 

Finished size is 12" x 36"

You'll need less than 1/2yd of four different colors (2 light and 2 dark)

I found scraps of Island Batik fabrics, two browns, an orange brown and a yellowish fabric.

 

From EACH of the two browns I cut out 8 total Quarter Square Triangles (shape 4) - so 2 layers each

 

 

Also 10 EACH of the rectangles (shape 8)

 

 

and lastly 4 EACH of the inner Drunkard's path (shape 12)

 

 

From the two lights I cut out 8 EACH of the QST (shape 4) also

and 4 EACH of the outer Drunkard's Path (shape 11)

and from one the lights I cut out 4 small squares (shape 2)

 

 

Now I'm all about being efficient when sewing, I want to sew as many pieces together at a time before I get up to iron!

Here's after sewing ONCE- all the Drunkard's Path blocks are done

Half of the QST blocks are done- notice there's two of each way with the lights and darks.

and 10 sets of the border rectangles are sewn together

 

 

Then I sewed together more of the border rectangles but kept two sets for the sides and sewed the small squares to one end for now

and 4 sets EACH of opposite QST blocks (love that I don't have to cut off dog ears!)

 

 

Then I started sewing together the QST blocks to the ends of the DP blocks and also worked on the border rectangles so there's two sides with 8 rectangles and then two sides with 2 rectangles and 2 squares

 

 

After that the table runner is quickly done!

 

 

and because it's a runner it took no time to quilt it and add binding!

 

 

I quilted pumpkins and leaves all over it in a light brown thread

(don't send the quilt police after me, I realize now it's the wrong kind of leaf that goes with pumpkins!)

 

 

It looks great on the dining room table!

 

 

Try it out, it's quick and easy - only took one afternoon pretty much.

It could make a great gift too!
