A Jewel of a Hostess Gift with a Returning Die

For this project, we'll be using the following AccuQuilt GO! dies:

GO! English Paper Piecing-Jewel Petal-1" Finished Sides Die

GO! Qube English Paper Piecing-1" Finished Sides, or

GO! English Paper Piecing-Hexagon-1" Finished Sides Die

Other supplies you will need:

Purchased hot pad and dishtowel

Coordinating fabric scraps

Medium weight fusible interfacing

Starting with pre-made items makes these projects "sew" easy.

Let's Get Started

Cut one hexagon from fusible interfacing using the PAPER die or section of the die.

Cut nineteen jewel petal shapes from fusible interfacing using the PAPER section of the die.

Cut one hexie and nineteen jewel shapes from fabric, using the FABRIC section of the die. I like to use my GO! Me with these small dies.

Note: The exact number and color of jewel petal pieces you cut will depend on the size of your towel and your design.

Preparing Your Pieces

I decided to use a medium weight fusible interfacing instead of paper for my EPP. Since these items will get heavy use, I believe this will help keep them looking good for a long time. It has the added bonus of not needing to be removed after stitching.

Glue baste the edges around each shape. You can also use a Fabric Glue Stick.

Next, stitch your pieces together using a whip stitch. If you need help with this step, refer to this fantastic video by Pam and Erica.

You are almost done!

Pin your pieces into place on the towel and hot pad and top stitch in place with your sewing machine.

That’s it! Your gift is ready for gifting. Make your set to match the recipient's kitchen as I did or go all out holiday. You could use this same idea to decorate a gift bag. Let your creativity flow and make a jewel of a gift to take to your next party.

Finished!
