A block that is everywhere this year is the Economy Block! While this block has been around for ages, it is having a resurgence in popularity. The GO! Knock Your Block Off pattern features the Economy Block. Here's how you can cut the pieces for your very own Economy Block in a flash with the GO!.
Start with the GO! Square on Point-3 11/16" (3 3/16 Finished) die.
Fan fold your fabric across the die. You can cut up to 6 layers of quilting cotton at once. With two squares on the die board, that's 12 perfect squares in just one pass through the GO!.
Roll extra fabric up beside the die when you roll it through the cutter. Place your mat on top and roll away!
Slide the mat off the die to reveal your perfect squares!
Next, grab the GO! Half Square Triangle-2 1/4" Finished die.
Fan fold your fabric across the die. You can cut up to six layers of quilting cotton at a time. Place the cutting mat on top and roll through the GO!.
Slide the cutting mat off the die, and you'll find perfect half square triangles! The notched corners help you line them up while sewing and you won't ever have to trim a dog ear. That's right, no dog ear trimming with notched corners!
Next, follow the same steps with the GO! Quarter Square Triangle-4 1/2" Finished Square die.
And now you've cut everything you need for your first few Economy Blocks!
Lay out your half square triangles around the center square and sew together.
Next, add the larger quarter square triangles around the outside and sew together.
There are lots of different size Economy Blocks you can make! Check out this blog post for other sizes and die requirements and watch the video below for even more tips and tricks!
