Hi, it's Bea from Beaquilter.com. The great thing about making quilts is the ability to get creative with colors and dies. What a great world it is! Did you know you can mix fall and spring dies for amazing table toppers? I'm here to say you can and here's how!
It's made with the new GO!® Spring Medley die and the GO!® Fall Medley die. I also used the GO! Qube™Mix and Match 10" Block and GO! Qube™10" Companion Set-Angles. Plus, GO! Strip Cutter-1½" (1" Finished) and GO! Strip Cutter-2
The table topper will finish at 16" x 36".
Even though it's fall, I found myself reaching in my basket for the Spring Medley die. Because I love both seasons, I thought why not take that die and mash it with some cute fall "stuff".
This thought process led me to sketch in my electronic quilting (EQ) program! Here's what I created!
Quilting Supplies Needed:
The GO! Spring Medley die and GO! Fall Medley die
½ yard dark brown print fabric
½ yard medium brown fabric
⅛ yard light brown fabric
⅜ yard white fabric
Scraps for the acorns and fabric for binding and backing (¼ yard for binding and ½ yard for backing)
Lastly, use shape #1, #2, #4, #5, #6, #8 and #16 from the GO! Qube Mix and Match 10" Block and GO! Qube 10" Companion Set-Angles.
Cut out the following fabrics:
One—shape 1 with dark brown print
Four—shape 2 of light brown
Eight—shape 4 of medium brown
Eight—shape 5 of both the dark brown print and light brown
Two—shape 6 of white
Four—shape 8 of white
Eight—shape 16 of white
At first I sewed the middle uneven nine patch together from the dark shape one square, four light brown small squares and four white rectangles.
Then, I started sewing together two of the mosaic blocks with the center #6 white square and four dark brown #5 triangles on each, paying attention to the direction of the fabrics. I also added the light brown fabric #5 triangles to the white #16 trapezoids.
Next, I sewed the #4 triangles to the center blocks as shown in the picture below.
Lastly, I sewed the blocks together like this. There's one uneven nine patch and two mosaic blocks.
I used Lite Steam-A-Seam, prepped a medium brown scrap and cut out one basket from the Spring Medley.
I used some other brown scraps and Steam-A-Seam again, cutting out two sets of acorns.
I played around with the placement of the acorns then fused them down.
I used a button hole stitch in a dark brown thread around everything. It's a tiny basket if it can only fit one or two acorns! It looks very festive!
I sewed the three blocks together and added borders using the medium brown fabric. I cut three width of fabric (WOF) strips from the 1½" strip die and trimmed to two 30½" and 12½".
From the dark brown, I cut three strips with the 2½" strip die and trimmed to two 32½" and 16½".
I quilted it with a light brown thread and did a pretty dense meandering. The binding is made from three WOF strips.
