Alright, quilters and crafty folk, the clock is ticking! We’re running out of time to make those handmade projects we want to share with all our friends and family, so here’s a rundown of some quick projects that will leave you plenty of time to frost your cookies and sip hot cocoa by the fire!
Relaxation for the Win
Who doesn’t need to relax? The GO! Microwaveable Eye Masks are quick and easy to make for everyone on your list. You can cut them out in seconds using the GO! Make These Projects Sweeter with German Cinnamon Rolls
An 8" x 8" foil pan of these wonderful rolls with baking directions, or fresh from the oven, tied up in a GO! Burp Cloth Casserole Cover would warm even the Grinch's heart! My friend, Janet, served them at her B&B.
Ingredients
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 cup of butter flavor shortening
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 cup of boiling water (up to 115 degrees)
- 2 package of active dry yeast
- 1 cup of warm water (up to 115 degrees)
- 2 eggs, slightly beaten and at room temperature
- 6 1/2 cups of flour
- 1/2 to 3/4 cups of melted butter (enough to spread over the dough)
Filling
- 2 cups of lightly packed brown sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons of cinnamon
- 3/4 cup of melted butter
- 1 cup of chopped nuts, optional
Instructions
In a large bowl, cream the sugar and shortening well. Add one ingredient at a time, beat in the salt, boiling water, yeast, warm water, and eggs. Beat in four cups of flour. Gradually add the remaining flour, beating well after each addition.
Cover and chill the dough at least four hours or overnight. In the morning, divide the dough in half. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to a 10" x 18" rectangle. Combine the filling ingredients and sprinkle half over the rectangle of dough. Starting with the long side, roll up the dough, jelly roll fashion, and cut it into 12 rounds at 1 1/2" wide. Place the rolls into greased pans so that they are not quite touching. Repeat with the other half. Cover with a towel and let the rolls rise in a warm place until the dough has doubled, about 1 hour. Brush with melted butter. Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Invert immediately after removing from the oven.
You can also let the dough do its initial rise right away, form the rolls, and then refrigerate them overnight. They will need to come to room temperature for best results. You can also freeze rolls after cooling and reheat them later.
These are at their best and light as a feather right out of the oven!
