June's Holiday Gift Is a Bowl Cozy
A Finished Bowl Cozy

I cannot believe that it is June already! How has this happened? This month, I have a quick little project for you using the GO! Small Bowl Cozy Die combined with the GO! Qube Mix & Match 8" Block. Solid bowl cozies are okay, but scrappy ones are more fun, especially when you can easily make more than one like I did!

Step one was to get out my paper shapes to determine a block that would work with the bowl cozy. I chose to use my GO! Qube Mix & Match 8" Block. I found that a square in a square block combined with two large half square triangles would fit nicely on one quarter of a bowl cozy with plenty of overlap.

NOTE: If you haven't made paper or felt shapes with your GO! Qube yet, definitely consider it. It makes designing stuff so easy. You can learn how to here.

A Cut Bowl Cozy Piece and Paper Shapes

I made mine using a charm pack from my stash, but it would be easier to use a larger piece of fabric. Due to that, there are a few more colors since my charm pack didn't have enough matching pieces. I have information on how to do both options.

Want to make one just like mine? To make two small bowl cozy, you will need the following:

Tools:

Fabrics:

  • Purple - Fat Quarter OR eight 5" squares
  • Turquoise - Fat Quarter OR sixteen 5" squares
  • Dark Blue - Fat Quarter OR eight 5" squares
  • Two 10" squares of Wrap 'N Zap Batting (microwave safe)

Cutting Directions

NOTE: These instructions are for using Fat Quarters. If you're using 5" squares, just lay them on the die blades, no more than six at a time.

1. With the purple fabric, cut:

  • Two strips at 4" x 16".
  • Fanfold the strips and place them over Shape 6's die blades. Then, subcut eight squares.

2. Using the turquoise fabric, cut:

  • Three strips at 3" x 19.5".
  • Fanfold the strips and place them over Shape 5's die blades. Now, subcut 32 half square triangles.

3. For the blue fabric, you will need to cut:

  • Two strips at 5" x 22".
  • Fanfold the strips and place them over Shape 3's die blades. Next, subcut 16 half square triangles.

4. With the batting and GO! Small Bowl Cozy Die, cut out two bowl cozy shapes.
