Rah rah, AccuQuilters! We are celebrating all things football with the Super Bowl right around the corner. A family party on game day would not be complete without some fun football themed projects. It's Lori from Lori Miller Designs here to share some great ideas that will sure to be a winning touchdown with your home team!
Bowl Cozies for the Home Team
First, I used a GO! Big Bowl Cozy (55208) to make these adorable football themed bowl cozies. There is nothing better than a piping hot bowl of soup in these winter months and the big bowl cozy is stylish and practical. The big bowl cozy is versatile and stitches up in a jiffy. I love that the darts are already cut out and it will fit most soup bowl sizes.
This is a great party favor idea for folks or family to take home with them too. You can find the FREE GO! Game Day Bowl Cozy Pattern (PQ11765) here.
Casserole Cozy for the Away Game
Next, I created this GO! Casserole Cozy with Cover (PQ11831). It is a great way to protect the table and tender fingers from the hot casserole dish.
It fits a glass 9” x 13” casserole dish perfectly.
And it includes a snap-on cover to keep everything protected and easy to carry. Click here for the free GO! Casserole Cozy and Cover pattern.
Snack or Candy Dish for the Crowd

Sewing
The table runner has four mini football blocks with rick rack trim.
Cut 8 – 3” pieces of white rickrack. Place the rickrack over the ends of the brown signature block, right across the corners. Sew a strait stitch through the center of the rickrack to attach it to the football shape. Sew each end of the 4 mini footballs.
Sew the grass print HST(Shape 5) to the corners of the football. Press.
Layout your mini footballs and the grass print rectangles (Shape 8).
Stitch them together. Pin your football strip to the Foam stabilizer strip.
Quilt vertical lines about ⅜” to ½” apart across the strip. Trim the excess foam stabilizer.
Measure the length and trim the green grass print lining length to match. Sometimes when you quilt, it will shrink a little.
Sew the ends of the strip right sides together to form a circle. Turn so the wrong side is facing out.
Press the heavy iron stabilizer to the wrong side of the candy dish bottom circle
Carefully pin or clip the bottom circle onto the bottom of the candy dish.
Carefully sew a ⅜” seam around the bottom of the candy dish. I used my walking foot to keep the layers from shifting. Clip the seam to ease the fabric being careful not to clip through your stitching.
Next, sew the candy dish lining sides together to form a circle. Carefully pin or clip the green grass print lining circle bottom to the lining sides. Clip the seam to ease the fabric being careful not to clip through your stitching.
With wrong sides together, tuck the lining into the candy bowl. You may have to work it in and press with your fingers to get it situated. Once you have it in there, you may have to trim the lining to match the top of the bowl. I used my clips to hold them in place before adding the binding.
Press your black fabric binding strip and stitch to attach to the top of the bowl.
I hand sewed the binding, but you can use your favorite method.
Your football themed candy or treat dish is finished. Do you want more ideas for Game Day party décor? How about adding a banner based upon the GO! Pennants die (55419).
Make a football themed pennant using the GO! Confetti Pennants Banner Pattern (PQ11617). Choose your Super Bowl theme fabrics and get headed for a touchdown. How about adding your favorite NFL or local college team prints to create these great projects?
