Do you have a favorite animal (besides dogs and cats, that is)? For me, it’s hedgehogs. Maybe it’s growing up surrounded by books and illustrations by the likes of Tasha Tudor and Beatrix Potter, but I love hedgehogs, which made me a huge advocate for this month’s adorable Die To Try, the GO! Hedgehog!
A group of hedgehogs is known as a prickle, which is not only fitting but really kind of wonderful in my eyes! What’s even more wonderful is the fact that with the GO! Hedgehog die you can now cut entire “prickles” of hedgehogs in just minutes since GO! dies will let you cut up to 4 layers of fused cotton in each pass through your cutter.
The GO! Hedgehog die includes a total of 6 shapes on the die, ranging from the spikey back to the tiny eye and ear pieces that would be difficult to cut by hand. After one or two, I for one would give up on my dream of creating a forest full of these charming creatures, but the die makes it simple. The die will also cut a wide variety of different materials that you can use to create your creatures, like leather, cork, craft foam and felt. Old and young alike can have a ball making personalized hedgehogs, thinking about ways to embellish them and even naming them!

Beyond adorning quilts, a “prickle” of hedgehogs would be perfect for a forest or woodland themed baby shower or birthday party. I can see invitations, garlands, table decorations and even decorated gift bags.
To make the GO! Hedgehog even more appealing, AccuQuilt provides free, downloadable outline embroidery in your choice of 3 stitches – blanket, satin and motif if you have an embroidery machine. If you’re looking for something a little more complex, there are other designs available to purchase and download. Some even turn our friend the hedgehog into other animals! Here is just a sampling, be sure to check them all out on AccuQuilt.com.
GO! Brambles & Bows Throw Quilt

This fun and friendly throw quilt, designed by Heather Kidd of Stringtown Lane Quilts for AccuQuilt shows off the GO Hedgehog to his – and her – best advantage! How do you tell a boy hedgehog from a girl? Simple, by the bow she wears from the GO! Cookie Decorations die! This quilt combines piecing using the GO! Qube Mix & Match-12” Finished Block with applique to make a fun quilt that’s sure to be loved by those both young and young at heart.
GO! Woodland Friends Throw Quilt

Close your eyes and imagine wandering through the forest of your childhood dreams as you follow the GO! Irish Chain path across the quilt through mushroom fields and a collection of forest friends starting with the GO! Hedgehog. This whimsical quilt was designed for AccuQuilt by Brianna Roberts of Sew Cute & Quirky using fabrics from Benartex.
GO! Modern Hedgehog Throw Quilt

If you’re ready to see the GO! Hedgehog in a whole new way, just take a look at this fun quilt! This project was designed by Suzy Webster of Webster Quilts for AccuQuilt and the monochromatic hedgehogs really give it a modern look, maybe with a touch of Warhol flair. Everything is die cut for this one, making it an easy project for any skill level. Think about what you could do for different holidays with a focus on specific colors and give it a try on AccuQuilt’s free color design tool, GO! Quilt. Red and green? Reds and pinks? Orange, green and purple? The fabric for this project was provided by Island Batik Fabrics.
GO! Hedgehog Love Runner

GO! ahead and sneak a kiss, this is a runner you’re going to love. Susy Webster of Webster Quilts designed this sweet project for AccuQuilt using Island Batik Fabrics and a couple of GO! Qubes to make the precious pieced heart border. The hearts perfectly frame out a loving, though prickly pair made easily with the GO! Hedgehog die. The perfectly cut little heart is actually made with the GO! Feathers die.
I hope you’re inspired to (carefully) embrace the GO! Hedgehog like I have and explore all the creative possibilities that exist for this die. Now remember, this cutie is a Die to Try, so head to your local AccuQuilt Dealer or AccuQuilt.com and gather one up while you still can. And be sure to share pictures of all your prickly projects on social media!
