A big 'thank you' to Beaquilter for guest blogging for us today and providing this fun tutorial on her owl pin cushion. Bea shows you how fast and easy you can make this cute little pin cushion using the GO! Owl die.
Supplies:
GO! Big Electric Fabric Cutter
Scraps of pink, white and blue or whatever colors you want your owl to be
Heat n Bond
Matching sewing thread for applique
Crushed walnut shells or fiber fill for stuffing owl
(optional turning tool)
Start by ironing Heat N Bond to the back of scraps of fabrics for owl parts.
Lay your fabric scraps on the GO! Owl die shapes, place your cutting mat on top, and then run the die through the cutter to cut out 2 bodies, 6 wings, 2 eyeballs and eyes, and 1 beak. You can use this die with any of the three GO! fabric cutters -- for this tutorial I used the GO! Big Electric Fabric Cutter.
Iron down owl parts onto ONE body piece, including two wings (not shown yet)
Sew 2 sets of 2 wings together with a scant ¼” or less leaving an opening at the top for turning. With turning tool, turn these right side out, these will be feet.
Machine applique pieces down onto body with a buttonhole stitch and matching thread.
Lay feet on the bottom with feet IN and having the openings stick out a little, then lay out another body (right sides together) and pin in place, sew ¼” around leaving the side open for turning.
Stuff owl with crushed walnut shells (or fiber fill)
With matching thread and needle sew opening closed.
And it’s DONE!
