Time for Show & Tell for Everyone's Finished GO! Morning Star Quilts

If you’re just now joining, today’s the day we’re wrapping up our third AQS & AccuQuilt-Along Series for 2023, but it’s never too late to jump in and make some of our fun projects! All the blog posts are still available and the video from each show can be found on AccuQuilt's website, Facebook page and our YouTube channel.

Last week, we finished off our tops by sewing our on point rows together with setting triangles, added a narrow border and even talked a little bit about binding. All along the way, we’ve encouraged you to join us on the AQS Quilting Project Parade Facebook group with pictures of your projects using the hashtag #AQSews. It isn’t a race, and it doesn’t matter whether your top is finished or a collection of blocks, quilted or still waiting for a backing, bound or not - we want to take a peek at what you created! This is just a small selection of your amazing projects!

The Beginning

Here's how Sharla H. worked on her project right alongside myself and AccuQuilt's Cutting Expert, Pam Heller! Isn't technology wonderful?

When we started, we talked a lot about fabric selections – scrappy or “planned,” following the pattern colors or striking out on your own - and we’ve seen everything from two colors to at least 13!

Here’s how Joanne Q. got started. She decided to use just two colors: a white on white dot and some GO! green fabric from Maywood Studios. This is such a fun and springy look.

Joanne Q. Went with These Two Fun Fabrics

Laura P. started with a fun green background and built these yummy sherbet colored blocks for her “warm” center blocks. She did a great job with her fabric and color placement to really pull out the secondary circular design.

Look at this block by Georgia McC.! She’s used ombre fabric to help her create the look of several different fabrics. Isn’t that clever?

Floral Looks

Some quilters decided to focus on creating the look of floral blocks, like Jan M. with her watercolor-looking batiks. The center of this block makes me think of Monet paintings!

Deanna S. created a center that looks like a sunflower! I couldin't wait to see what she decided to do for her outer blocks - and she didn't disappoint!

Borders

We’ve seen some very cool border treatments added to projects, too. Take a look at this top by Micki W. I’m thinking her scraps got to join the party in the borders, creating a really fun and a look that’s uniquely her own.

Karen J.’s been one busy quilter! Here’s her first GO! Morning Star Rainbow Quilt, where she’s added a parade of ombre bears around the outside. Isn’t it adorable?

Then, Miss Karen was inspired by our own Pam Heller’s Halloween fabrics, so she created this little masterpiece with Halloween fabric and flock of little ghosts around the outside from the GO! Halloween Medley Die. To top it all off, she has such an amazing shed to use as a backdrop for her quilt pictures, doesn’t she?

Love of Fabric

Cindy McL. put an interesting twist on her project by combining a white with black background print with a white on black print for the corners to create her project. The sunny center really pops on this, and I love her combination of blues, purples and green, too!

Color, Color & More Color

Take a look at this grouping of quilts – what a huge difference just the hue of the fabric makes! Lisa S. has bright, clear, saturated colors that really pop against the pale gray background while Pamela S. has created just a slightly softer look with her rainbow of fabrics.

Now, contrast those to Gail W. L., whose fabric selections lean just a little more towards the lighter side and Ms. Joey B., who has created a very soft look with her pastel choices!

Chris R.’s creating a very different look with changing the background to black, which really lets the colors sing. All wonderful, uniquely different and inspiring!

My Turn

Having shown off so many wonderful quilts, I think it's only fair that I show off my progress as well! Miss Pam's been so busy with travel that you'll have to check back on the AQS Quilting Project Parade Facebook group page to see her progress when she returns.

What's Next?

Pam and I will be announcing the next 2023 AQS & AccuQuilt-Along Series on the July 19 AccuQuilt Live, and we’ll start that project on August 2, so you don’t have too long to wait! Everyone did such a great job guessing the project last time that I thought we’d do that again, so here’s your first clue about our next quilt: it uses a GO! Qube Mix & Match Block and a Companion Set!

Keep an eye out for more clues on the AQS Quilting Project Parade Facebook page and in our upcoming livestream events!

Don’t forget to keep sharing pictures of your projects with us using the hashtag #AQSews and be sure to check out the AQS Show & Tell blog post as well!
