2023 AQS & AccuQuilt-Along Series: Stars in the Crown, Show & Tell

Time to celebrate all the amazing projects that have been made as part of the 2023 AQS & AccuQuilt-Along Series: Stars in the Crown! I’ve been simply blown away by the creativity of all the participating quilters, so let’s dive right in. Here are just a few of the outstanding projects we saw posted by quilters throughout this quilt-along using the hashtag #AQSews. There were so many that I wish I could include them all!

My Version

I must admit that as I write this, I’m still working on quilting my project – after all, it isn’t a race, right? Pam and I both worked with the GO! Qube Mix & Match 8” Block, the same size as the rotary cutting directions the American Quilter's Society (AQS) provided for this project. I love blue and yellow together any time of the year, but especially in the spring. Click here to find the pattern.

Expansion Ideas

Several quilters came up with wonderful ways to enlarge the size of their quilts. I love how this one by Deborah E. K. has the off-set secondary stars!

Gail W. L. expanded hers in a similar way, but in a straight line, creating a different center point for her quilt.

I love Sonya J.’s quilt - and not just because it’s purple (but that might be a factor…). Look how Sonya J. expanded her quilt! I love how she combined different GO! Qube sizes for her project. Note that she’s still working on this, but I just couldn’t resist showing it!

Fredda T. said she “improvised” her border to work with her scraps.

Change It Up

Sometimes, a project or pattern just doesn’t fit your needs “as is.” Here’s a great example of that with Jana H. turning her stars on point into placemats!

Fussy Cutting & Beyond

The center square in the star block was the perfect way for Jeffrey M. F. to showcase some princess fabric for a very lucky recipient – complete with pillow and travel bag!

Seasonal Fun

Fall fun is how I would describe this project by Deanna S.! Her quilt celebrates Halloween with some fussy cut gnomes, jack-o-lanterns and more. She dialed up the size of her project with a wide border and more stars in the corners.

Double the Fun

I’ve seen several quilters opt for double borders to tie their projects together. In this one, Marcia P. added little stars in the corners, which is so adorable!

Pre-Cuts for the Win

Here’s a look at Susan W.’s project that she made with the GO! Qube Mix & Match 8” Block and pre-cut layer cake (10”) squares of fabric, adding a subtle scrappiness vibe.

Small, but Mighty

Look at the adorable little version by Jenny R. using her GO! Qube Mix & Match 4" Block!

Scrappy Goodness

Many of you worked to use your scraps and stash in your quilts, like Laura S. with her version. She even expanded it using Flying Geese for a second border.

That’s a Wrap!
