And just like that, it’s a New Year! If you’re new to AccuQuilt and our Die to Try Series Dies, let me take a minute to share the details about this program.
AccuQuilt releases new and innovative dies on the first Tuesday of each month. These dies vary from month to month and are a great way to “test the quilting waters” to see how popular some new shapes and concepts will be, because we only release a limited number of these dies, they are only available for one month or while supplies last, and they are only available on the AccuQuilt website or your local AccuQuilt retailer.
After a die is gone, quilters have the opportunity to vote on bringing it back on our website, and periodically we will re-launch the most popular dies as a part of our regular die collection.
January’s Die to Try
Now, let’s take a look at the GO! Elephant Family die. This sweet applique die is on a 6” x 12” die board so it can be used with all GO! Fabric Cutters. As with all GO! applique dies, you can cut up to 4 layers of quilting cotton that has fusible on the back at one time – which means you really are cutting an entire family with each pass through the cutter!
These shapes would take so long to cut by hand, and they would never be as perfect as they are with die, not to mention how long hand-cutting would take! You can cut dozens for applique and crafting projects in a flash, and those elephants just couldn’t be cuter! With their trunks up, they are full of good luck for you to share for years to come.
Did I say crafting projects? You bet I did! You can cut all kinds of different materials with GO! dies, including cardstock, craft foam, felt, wool and leather. With thicker fabrics, I suggest starting with just 1 layer.

Embroidery Options
AccuQuilt’s applique dies are designed for fusible applique, and with the cutting all done in the blink of an eye, all you need to do is decide on a method to finish your shapes off, either with your domestic sewing machine or an embroidery machine. You can use any decorative stitch around the outside edge, a straight stitch just inside the raw edge or even by quilting over the top with your regular sewing machine, but an embroidery machine opens so many more options for you!
AccuQuilt provides free, downloadable outline embroidery for almost all our shapes – with a choice of blanket stitch, motif stich or satin stitch, but there are also more complex downloadable designs available for you to purchase on AccuQuilt.com. We have so many new designs available with the GO! Elephant Family that you’ll want to check them all out, but here are just a few.
