Hey there! It’s Stephanie from Steph Jacobson Designs sharing my newest design that is a modern take on the classic Shoo Fly block.
Setting Triangles for On Point Blocks
I was first introduced to the concept of side and corner setting triangles when AccuQuilt released the Studio Setting Triangle Dies. Side and corner setting triangles make quick work of completing a quilt made up of blocks on point.
If you don’t have a Studio, you will be happy to hear AccuQuilt now has setting triangle dies that work with the AccuQuilt GO! and AccuQuilt GO! Big.
There are GO! Setting Triangle dies in sizes to match all the GO! Mix & Match Qubes. My favorite size quilt blocks to make are 12” finished. I like big quilt blocks as they make quick quilts!
So many quilt blocks can be easily made with AccuQuilt dies and the Shoo Fly block is no exception.

How to Make a Shoo Fly Quilt Block with AccuQuilt
This block can be made using Shapes #1 (GO! Square) and #3 (GO! Half Square Triangle) from any size Mix & Match Qube. For this project, I used the GO! Qube Mix & Match 8” Block.
Making my 9-Patch Shoo Fly quilt blocks creates that are 12.5” (12” finished). Setting the blocks on point gives a new look to a traditional block, and the quilt top is easily completed using the GO! Setting Triangles - 12” Finished Die.
I enjoy using my AccuQuilt GO! to cut my fabric scraps and designed this fun, scrappy quilt in Electric Quilt 8.
The finished quilt uses just 13 blocks set on point and measures approximately 51” square.
