It's Show & Tell Time for the 2023 AQS & AccuQuilt-Along Series: Shoo Fly Spin Throw Quilt

I can’t believe we’re already here at Show & Tell time for this project. It’s been so much fun to work on together with all of you, and I’ve been so inspired to see what you’ve been up to, so let’s get started.

Summer Vibes

Summer means vacation time, and I’ve seen many comments about travel changing up your quilting plans, but at least one of you decided not to let that slow you down. Gail J. O. took her project right along with her in the R.V. and just kept working!

Meanwhile, Colleen W. R. cooked up a summery fabric combination that I fell in love with! I love the mix of solids with blenders and the stripe that pulls it all together.

Our friend, Karen J., is showing off her quilt and her darling teal shed here with another summer-inspired fabric combination. I love how she switched up her borders with one solid and then the multi-color strip to pull everything together.

I love the look of turquoise blues with red and this quilt by Janet T. is a total winner in my book. Doesn’t it just look happy? While you'll notice similarities in these quilts, each is special and unique in its own way.

Celebrating Holidays

I always say that you can make any quilt for any holiday just by changing the fabric, and it looks like you all agree with me! Laurie W. has jumped into making her project with the GO! Qube Mix & Match 4" Block and some Christmas fabric.

There are also some fun examples of Halloween fabric, starting with Annette A., who’s going to use the square with candy corn fabric (and purple!) for the center of her quilt.

Clever quilter Debra W. saw a hidden design in the Spin block and couldn’t resist seeing it through to create this darling block! She used the GO! Fox Die to create the eyes!

Different Sizes

One of the many great features of using the GO! Qube system is being able to change up the size of your blocks and projects so easily! While AccuQuilt Cutting Expert Pam Heller and I used the original pattern and the GO! Qube Mix & Match 5" Block, many of you opted to use other sizes – with wonderful results!

Not a Race

I love quilting alongside all of you with these projects! Some, like Micki W. and Wendy M., are really quick quilters and got their projects done so quickly that my head was spinning! Yet their creations are so lovely, aren’t they?

Debbie B. did not just one, but two versions of this quilt. I love both – and how they illustrate the difference that your fabric and color choices can make.

I love how this array of Shoo Fly blocks looks, don’t you? I wish I had taken a picture of all of mine together, like Shirley M. - and I love her fabrics!

Keep Sewing & Posting!

I hope you’ll keep on sewing and posting pictures on social media using the hashtag #AQSews, especially on the AQS Quilting Project Parade Facebook group. AQS will be posting a blog about your projects, too, so be sure to check that out.

Well, that’s the end of this quilt-along, but never fear, another one starts soon! Our final AQS & AccuQuilt-Along Series for the year will start on Wednesday, October 4. The lovely and talented Pam Heller will be announcing the project on her AccuQuilt Live show on Wednesday, September 20, so be sure to tune in. There just may be a few hints coming your way on what the project will be, so keep an eye out for those on the Facebook group!

For now, let me say that this next project is going to a fun one, with plenty of opportunities to create your own, unique project!
