Learn How to Keep Your GO! Qube Scraps Organized

I love, love, love scrappy quilts and I never, ever throw away extra cut pieces because you will never use them if you don’t know what you have. Today, I’m going to share my system for organizing these tiny treasures.

During AccuQuilt Live events, especially the 2023 AQS & AccuQuilt-Along Series shows, AccuQuilt Cutting Expert Pam Heller and AccuQuilt Creativity Expert Erica Bottger have described and shown how they organize their cut pieces for projects (zippy bags and an embroidery art bin as well as pinning to foam core, respectively. They've also shared how other quilters participating in the quilt-alongs keep track of and organize their shapes. These methods are great to use while working on a project, but what about long-term organization?

My solution is to use plastic bins. You can use any size or shape that works for you. Mine are about the size of a shoebox. The top row is where I keep my GO! Qube scraps. I have one bin for each size Qube that I own. All extra pieces cut from that GO! Qube go in that bin. Easy peasy!

Here are my 5” Qube, 6” Qube and 8" Qube bins. I also like to keep my GO! Qubes nearby, so I don't have to go far to put away my unused cut pieces and store the GO! Qubes.

When I need 3” half square triangles, I go to my 6” Qube bin before cutting any, just in case I already have some on hand.

The one exception I make to this rule is that I give squares their own bin. I have bins for 1 1/2” squares, 2” squares, 2 1/2” squares and 3 1/2” squares. You can see this in the photo above.

I hope this helps you to better organize your GO! Qube scraps so that you will actually use them. It has made all the difference for me!

If you have your own method of organizing your cut pieces, please post a picture of it on social media and tag @katyquilts and @AccuQuilt so that we can see what you do!
