How to Dress up Your Pets for Spring Holidays

Hi, quilters! Katy here from KatyQuilts to help you get your pets ready for the upcoming spring holidays.

Winslow
Willy

A lot of people love to dress up for holidays and special occasions, but you don’t want to leave out your sweet pet from looking their best! I made a yo-yo flower for my little girl, Winslow, and a bow tie, for my little guy, Willy. Both of these are made in such a way that they easily slip on and off their collars.

Yo-Yo Flower Supplies

Girls first. Let’s start with the flower.

Yo-Yo Flower Instructions

1. Using the GO! Circle-2", 3", 5" Die, cut one of each size circle from the three different coordinating square fabric scraps.

2. Time to make some yo-yos! Using strong thread, hand baste the edge under on one of the circles.

3. Pull the thread tight and knot it.

4.  Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for the other two circles.

5. Stack the three circles and hand stitch them all together.

6. Cut a piece of elastic that is twice as long as the width of your pet’s collar and hand stitch it to the back, forming a loop.

7. Feed the collar through the loop and put it on your pup! Winslow was pretty pleased with herself.

Bow Tie Supplies

Bow Tie Instructions

1. Using Shapes 1 and 2 from the GO! Qube 10" Mix & Match Block, fuse interfacing to the back of a 6" square of selected fabric.

2. With your 6 1/2" square fabric scrap, use Shape 1 to cut a 5 1/2" square.

3. Fold the cut square in half and sew it into a tube, leaving approximately 2" open in the middle for turning.

4. Rotate the tube so that the seam is centered at the back and stitch across each end.

5. Clip the corners.

6. Turn the tube right side out and press. I used the wrong end of a small crochet hook to push out the corners.

7. Accordion fold in the center. Use a clip to keep the center of the bow tie pinched.

8. Cut a 3" square from the 3 1/2" square fabric scrap using Shape 2.

9. Sew the cut square into a tube, turn right side out, and press.

10. Wrap the smaller tube piece around the pleated center of the tie (the larger tube piece).

11. Stitch as close as possible to the tie itself.

12. Trim the excess with pinking shears.

13. Time to grab a hair tie and crochet hook! Use the crochet hook to pull the hair tie through the center of the tie.

14. Feed the collar through both loops of the elastic hair tie.

15. Just like that, Willy is ready for Easter too!

Don’t they look cute?
