Welcome Spring with the GO! Full Blown Tulip Die

The calendar tells us it’s spring and April’s Die to Try series die is ready to burst into bloom! The GO! Full Blown Tulip-8” Finished Die is just the thing to bring a breath of fresh air to your quilting projects.

Die to Try

The Die to Try program offers an exclusive new die on the first Tuesday of every month.

These dies are available during their release month while supplies last on the AccuQuilt website or at your local retailer. When the next month starts, another new die, more free patterns and additional tutorials will be available to quilters.

Quilters can vote to add a Die to Try die to our permanent die collection, meaning more quilters will be able to grab the die if they were unable to during its limited edition launch.

It’s a Classic

The Full Blown Tulip, like so many others, is a classic quilt block that has many different versions. Our version is the four X construction, meaning the four units that make up the block are quarter square units rather than square. This opens up so many fun opportunities to put your own creative spin on this block!

Piece by Piece

Let’s look at this Block on Board, or BOB, die and how the block comes together.

GO! Full Blown Tulip – Example

This die features four unique shapes, each in a set of two, with specialized dog-eared corners to create this block with ease – and without Y-seams! As a Block on Board die, you can cut the entire 5-color, 8" finished block in just one pass through any GO! Fabric Cutter.

GO! Full Blown Tulip – Layout

Be sure to follow the easy to follow block assembly directions for this one, found in the patterns and on the product page on AccuQuilt's website. I always use the block assembly directions when I make my test block for a new project.

You’ll be creating four units that go together to make this complex-looking block so quickly! Here’s a tip for you: press those seams open to help your block lay flat when you’re done!

Picture Perfect Partners

This block is a natural to work with your GO! Qube Mix & Match 8” Block and Companion Sets, Corners and Angles, and the GO! Setting Triangles-8” Finished Die, but don’t forget about the other great GO! BOB Dies that also finish to 8”, like GO! Hattie’s Choice.

If you love using Electric Quilt 8 (EQ8) Quilt Design Software for designing your projects, you’ll find this block in the Block Library ready to help you create dozens of projects. Our designers have also cultivated some spectacular projects that are sure to catch your eye!

Perfect Projects

GO! Tulip Tiles Throw Quilt

Just look at all the secondary patterns that emerge just from changing color placement. It’s hard to believe that this is created just with one die, isn’t it?

GO! Tulip Time Wall Hanging

Speaking of color way magic, this wall hanging is also made with just the GO! Full Blown Tulip-8" Finished Die, plus a border. You’ll be amazed as you see this design come together before your very eyes. It certainly gives this classic block a modern look, doesn’t it?

GO! Climbing Tulips Throw Quilt

This project is a sure way to bring the outside in. Here, the GO! Square-8 1/2" (8" Finished) Die, GO! Qube Mix & Match 6” Block and Companion Set-Corners team up with the GO! Full Blown Tulip to create the flowery design.

Try out different colors in these pretty posies by using GO! Quilt, AccuQuilt’s free design tool that lets you reimagine thousands of free patterns with different colors. You can even import your own fabric into the program to see what your finished design will look like.

GO! Field of Tulips Wall Hanging

Have you ever seen tulip fields? While living in the Pacific Northwest, it was one of my very favorite annual traditions, and this wall hanging brings that picture of rolling fields of color to life. The addition of sashing and cornerstones combined with placing the blocks on point creates yet another totally different, fresh look for this die.
